Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth slammed his former Fox News colleague Jennifer Griffin on Friday night for reporting the news.
Griffin, Fox's chief national security correspondent, tweeted a letter from Democratic members of the House Appropriations Committee to Hegseth inquiring about renovations to the secretary's government residence. The upgrades total nearly $140,000.
"It was not until February 5, 2025 that the committee learned that you would be the occupant of this family housing unit," the letter states before asking Hegseth why he requires government housing.
Griffin tweeted a screenshot of the letter, writing, "Dems on House Appropriations Committee ask why Sec Hegseth needs $137,297 for home repairs/paint for government residence, in light of DOGE efforts to save tax payer money? Letter below[.]"
That the letter irked Hegseth is not surprising, but in quote-tweeting Griffin, the secretary took a couple of shots at his former coworker and even tagged her as if to make sure she saw his post.
"Fake News of the Day (not surprising from Democrats & @JenGriffinFNC; same thing)," he replied. "Any/all house repairs were going to happen no matter who was moving in -- and were all initiated by DoD. But Dems/Jen don't care about facts; they're just Trump haters."
Earlier in the day, Griffin shared a Wall Street Journal article about the Trump administration using Guantanamo Bay as a detention center for undocumented migrants.
"Where's DOGE?" Griffing tweeted, referring to Elon Musk's "Department of Government Efficiency. "It costs $28,500 an hour to fly a C-17, compared with $8,500 an hour for a standard Immigration and Customs Enforcement flight. 13 migrants flown to Gitmo on 2nd near empty U.S. military C17 flight Thursday."
