2 people, dog rescued from boat capsized off Florida coast

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. - Two people were rescued from a boat that capsized in the rough waters off St. Augustine earlier this month, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies with the agency's Marine Unit responded just before 3 p.m. Feb. 15 to a distress call for the overturned boat, which the two people and a dog were clinging to near the St. Augustine Inlet, the sheriff's office said on social media. The water quality that day was poor, with strong winds and large swells, the post states.

The sheriff's office said deputies Michaux and Weintraub found the stranded boaters and pulled them to safety. The two adults and the dog were ferried to the Vilano Fishing Pier, the post states, adding nobody was injured.

St. Johns County Fire Rescue and St. Augustine Fire Department marine units also helped in the rescue, according to the post.
