Larry H. Miller Week 26 high school star athletes of the week

Payson picked up two huge region wins last week, and at the center of that success was senior Legend Reynoso.

He led Payson in scoring with 16 points in a 62-51 win over Provo, and then three nights later tallied 20 points in a 56-52 win over Timpanogos.

"Legend is a hard worker and helps our team win in many different ways. Whether it's a defensive stop, an assist or a bucket, he's always ready to step up and do it. He has put in many hours in the gym and it's awesome to see all the hard work paying off. He has the best attitude and is a great example, both on and off the court," said Payson coach Anthony Mitchell.

For the season, he's averaging 11.7 points for the Lions to go along with 5.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists.

Hayzlyn Murdock, North Summit (Sr.)

The consistent play and leadership of senior Hayzlyn Murdock is a big reason North Summit heads into the final week of the regular season with a 20-1 record.

Last week in three wins over Rich, Grand and San Juan, she combined for 62 points and 23 rebounds in the three wins.

"She worked hard in the off-season to improve herself for this season. She is doing a great job of leading our team along with Hartlynn Richins, our only two seniors," said North Summit coach Jerre Holmes.

For the season, Murdock is averaging 17.5 points and 9.2 rebounds.

She was voted a Deseret News second team all-stater last season, and this past fall she was voted a volleyball first team all-stater.

Lincoln Hymas, Bingham (Sr.)

Bingham senior Lincoln Hymas heads into next week's 6A state meet riding high after a terrific performance at the Region 3 meet last week.

Hymas won the Region 2 title in both the 200 and 500 freestyle events, posting the fastest time in 6A this high school season in both events.

"Lincoln has high expectations and does everything it takes to reach them. Starting last season, he decided that he was going to do what it took to be the best in the state and his drive in the pool has led him to success at the club level as well as the high school level. That drive and desire helps others on the team to strive for that same success," said Bingham coach Clint Sorensen.

Hymas touched the wall in the 500 free in 4:43.36. He's the defending state champ in the event. In the 200 free he won with a time of 1:43.26. He was a state runner-up in that event last year.

Kara Moir, Skyridge (Jr.)

Kara Moir's infectious personality has been a huge asset for Skyridge this season.

"In the three years of coaching Kara, I cannot recall one time that I haven't seen her smile. She has a spirit, and light, about her that she cannot help but share with her fellow teammates. Not only does she inspire them with her amazing athletic ability, but leads them by example as one of the team's captains," said Skyridge coach Brady Karratti.

Last week at the Region 3 championships, Moir finished first in the 500 freestyle and fourth in the 200 free. Her time of 5:19.41 in the 500 free is the best time in 6A this season.

Heading into the 6A state meet next week, Moir will be looking to improve upon her third-place finish in the 500 free and her seventh-place finish in the 200 free from a year ago.

Moir is always a member of Skyridge's student council.

Ben Smith, South Summit (Sr.)

Heading into the final meet with South Summit High School, senior Ben Smith looks to put a punctuation mark on a tremendous career.

Coming off a first-place finish in the 175-pound bracket of the 3A Divisional A state qualifying meet last weekend, Smith now turns his attention to a state title 3-peat.

After finishing runner-up as a freshman in 2022, Smith won individual 3A state titles in 2023 and 2024, and will look to make it a third-straight during next week's state tournament.

He heads into the state tournament with a 43-3 record this season.

Lindsey Hansen, Tooele (Sr.)

Defending state champ Lindsey Hansen moved one step closer to a repeat last weekend.

The Tooele senior breezed through the 110-pound bracket of the 4A Divisional A state-qualifying tournament at Dixie High School.

She won all four of her matches be either fall or technical fall to improve to 40-3 on the season.

So far this season, she has won titles at the Girls Skyhawk Showdown, Beehive Invite, Ross Brunson All-Star Duals and the Rockwell Rumble.

She'll be the favorite at next week's 4A state tournament at 110 pounds.
