Cinematique of Wilmington to hold finale screening at Thalian Hall

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The Cinematique of Wilmington is coming to an end after 30 years of providing the community with independent films, according to a press release.

Thalian Hall has partnered with WHQR for decades for film buffs and young filmmakers. The finale of Cinematique at Thalian Hall will take place June 23-25 and will feature some of the popular films of the series, such as 'The English Patient', 'Amélie', and 'The Queen.'

A toast and gathering post-screening will be held on June 25.

"Cinematique at Thalian Hall has been an incredibly special part of our community. It was one of my favorite things in Wilmington when I moved here 18 years ago and it has been an honor to work with Thalian Hall these many years to present quality films in such a beautiful setting," WHQR Development Director and Cinematique Coordinator Mary Bradley said.

Thalian Hall CEO Shane Fernando says he is proud of the collaboration between Thalian Hall and WHQR.

"Film has been a very important part of our community experience since 1896, with North Carolina's first public film screening at Thalian Hall. We look forward to new and continued growth of this genre in our region," said Fernando.

Thalian Hall Director of Scheduling & Cinema Michael Morelli says Cinematique has been one of his favorite parts of the job for the past 14 years.

"It has been an absolute pleasure and point of pride to have been a part of it," said Morelli.

Cinematique and Thalian Hall film programming will continue, according to the release. Details will be announced at a later time.
