PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State Patrol (WSP) announced that from August 6 to August 10, law enforcement will conduct emphasis patrols as Washington State University students return for the fall semester.

District 4 troopers in Whitman and Adams counties and District 6 troopers in Grant and Kittitas counties will focus on speeding, distracted driving and impaired driving, according to WSP.

The WSP reported a 180% increase in fatality collisions in 2025, with 14 incidents investigated compared to five in the same period in 2024.

Officials urged the public to adhere to speed limits, avoid impaired driving and stay focused on the road.
