BOYS BKB: JOHN GLENN 67, HOLLY 58
John Glenn's first game as a state-ranked team nearly turned sour.
Then the Bobcats showed how they've earned that No. 8 billing.
With yet another spirited finish, Glenn dodged a complete collapse, fended off upset-minded Holly 67-58 and landed its 10th consecutive victory.
Glenn (12-2) led 35-17 at halftime before giving its entire lead back. Holly roared back to send the game into overtime, giving this 2-12 team that is caught in a nine-game losing streak a chance for a shocker.
But Glenn, as it has done much of this season, found a way to finish with a flurry. The Bobcats outscored Holly 12-3 in overtime, getting six big points from Hayden Ruff and a clutch 3-pointer from Jimmy McCrum.
"The guys really turned it on in overtime," Glenn coach Dale Clyde said. "When things didn't go well -- on the road and in kind of an odd week - we were able to turn it around and get the W, and I'm proud of them for that."
McCrum knocked down six 3-pointers in a 19-point performance for Glenn. Danzell Calhoun scored 12 points while Ruff and Oliver Masters each added 10.
Holly's Bowen Moore proved to be a handful, scoring 31 points in the contest.
After four straight losing seasons, tradition-rich Unionville-Sebewaing Area is on track to finish on the plus side. And a 48-35 victory over neighboring rival Laker suggests the Patriots are playing a winning brand of defense.
The 35 points represents Laker's second-lowest output in a game this season.
USA (8-5, 3-3) roared to an 18-4 lead then was able to stay a step ahead of Laker in the Big Thumb Conference White clash. Landon Bursick fronted the offense with 21 points while Justin Jacobs scored 14 and Davis Peters eight.
Laker (7-5, 3-3) was led by Caden Carriveau with 15 points and Lucas Wehner with 10.
BOYS BKB: MILLINGTON 56, CASS CITY 52
Cass City played with the pride of a reigning league champion.
Facing a tall task against No. 9-ranked Millington, the Red Hawks kept things close until the end before coming up short in a 56-52 setback.
Millington (11-1, 5-1) got a 34-point performance from Brad Coleman while Bryce Martin added 10 points in the Big Thumb Conference White contest. The Cardinals dashed to a 17-10 first-quarter lead only to see Cass City (6-6, 3-3) counter to within 27-26 by halftime.
Matt Mellendorf came through with 17 points while Griffin Weiler scored 10 and Mason Gniewek eight to keep the Red Hawks within striking distance to the finish.
BOYS BKB: CARO 71, REESE 59
Caro erupted in the middle quarters, dramatically turning the tide en route to a 71-59 victory over Reese in Big Thumb Conference White play.
Reese led 15-11 after one quarter, but Caro went on a 45-27 spree in the second and third frames to take charge. Connor McGarry pumped in 28 points for the Tigers (6-7, 3-3) while Evan Langmaid added 16 points.
Reese (7-6, 2-4) got 17 points from Brady Benson and nine from Tre Johnson while four other players finished with seven points.
