Brock Purdy explains his hilarious lighthearted nickname for superstar left tackle Trent Williams

Star 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy once called future Pro Football Hall of Famer Trent Williams his "binkie" because of the left tackle's prowess on the 25-year-old's blind side.

Purdy was asked to further detail the hilarious nickname after Thursday's 49ers practice in Santa Clara, and he did not disappoint.

"I think when I said that in [a Bussin' With The Boys] interview, they were asking me about 'What it's like having Trent Williams block for you?' So, for me, I just said he is like my binkie, because I know my left side's good. He is a Hall-of-Fame left tackle.

"I don't really call him that. I just call him 'T-dub' or 'bro' or whatever. So, I don't really call him Binkie, but anyway, that's sort of where that came from. But he's a Hall-of-Fame offensive line blocker for me, and I'm very thankful for that."

Williams, an 11-time NFL Pro Bowl selection entering his 15th season, surely will end up enshrined in Canton, Ohio. So it's no wonder that Purdy once called him his "binkie," as he can't be at his best on the field without him.

Purdy was asked if the "binkie" comment about Williams was inspired by his own experience as a father to his daughter, Millie, with his wife, Jenna.

"Yeah, I think so," Purdy said about a connection. "When you're in times of some chaos, you'd like a binkie like for our baby. You give her the binkie, and she's calm. And when Trent's out there blocking for me, I'm calm."

It is simple -- when Williams is blocking for Purdy, the quarterback feels like a baby comforted by his binkie. The nickname might stick, whether Mr. Irrelevant wants it to or not.
