There obviously isn't an app to fix that after a pair of nasty winter storms dumped more than 33 centimetres of snow on the city last weekend.

And with more snow forecast for early next week, the pain of clearing driveways isn't over yet.

But, there is a workable solution to keeping driveways clear for the most part, offers Joe Reid, city director of Transportation and Operations, who oversees the clearing of 950 lane-kilometres of city streets and 200 kilometres of sidewalks during and after every snow event.

With a little forethought, Reid suggested Tuesday in the wake of the weekend's snowy aftermath homeowners can do some preventive snow carving of snowbanks to reduce spillage into their driveways.

The idea is to carve out a space on the outer left corner of driveways at streetside to create a pocket to receive snow coming off the blades of a snowplow rather than the driveway.
