Prayagraj: With the authorities of Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) officially opening online applications for recruitment of 1,253 assistant professors in 217 govt degree colleges across the state, the eligibility allows candidates from several interrelated and equivalent disciplines to apply, expanding opportunities for a broader pool of applicants.The recruitment drive, which began on Thursday, covers 28 academic subjects and allows candidates from several interrelated and equivalent disciplines to apply for the advertised posts. In the field of Commerce, subjects such as Business Administration and Management, Accountancy and Statistics, as well as Economic Administration and Financial Management, have been recognised as equivalent. This eligibility allows candidates holding an MBA (Master of Business Administration) degree to apply for 157 available positions under the Commerce category, broadening the scope for management graduates to enter academia.Likewise, among the listed subjects, Botany has the highest number of recognised equivalent disciplines. For the 79 posts available in Botany, degrees in Plant Science, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Plant Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Marine Biotechnology, Genetics, Environmental Science, and Life Sciences are all considered valid. This flexible eligibility criterion aims to accommodate the growing interdisciplinary nature of modern science.In addition, candidates with qualifications in Modern, Medieval, or Ancient History, as well as Archaeology, are eligible for posts in the History category. Similarly, in Home Science, degrees in Food and Nutrition, Clothing Textiles, Human Development, and Family Resource Management have been approved. For Chemistry, acceptable specialisations include Applied Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, and Pharmaceutical Chemistry. In Political Science, candidates with degrees in Public Administration and International Relations are also eligible. Meanwhile, authorities are continuing with the facilities being provided for the aspirants of the Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) 2025, which will be conducted by the UPSSSC on Saturday and Sunday. The examination will be held in two shifts -- from 10am to 12pm, and from 3pm to 5pm -- across 1,479 examination centres in 46 districts of the state. To ensure a fair, transparent and cheating-free examination, extensive arrangements have been made. Police teams, along with STF (Special Task Force) units, have been deployed across all districts. Additionally, special buses and trains have been arranged for candidates to reach their exam centres conveniently.
