On a recent appearance on the Up & Adams show with Kay Adams, Jacksonville Jaguars' quarterback Trevor Lawrence was asked about current free agent wide receiver and his former college teammate Tee Higgins.
"Tee's great," said Lawrence. "Who knows what's going to happen. Tee's awesome. We have a history, for sure. That guy, no matter where he goes, obviously I'd love to be throwing to him again, but no matter where he goes he's going to be a star-he already is. I know Cincinnati wants to keep him, Joe's (Burrow) been putting the pressure on them over there."
Adams would then follow up and ask Lawrence for his free agency pitch to help get Higgins to the Jaguars:
"What's my best pitch?" Lawrence asked. "Obviously I'm sure, he's got the relationship with Joe, if everything goes well I'm sure he wouldn't want to leave, but if that wasn't the case, I think I definitely would be up next as far as Tee and our relationship and what we've done in the past.
"We played together for two years had a lot of success in college and we could definitely do that again in Jacksonville."
Higgins has spent his first five NFL seasons with the Bengals after being the 33rd overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft.
He's been a focal point of the offense with over 100 targets in three of the last four seasons and he eclipsed the 1,100 yard mark twice during that span, including a career-high of 1,400 yards in 2021. Higgins fell just shy of 1,000 yards this past season with 911.
Higgins and Lawrence would both play their college ball at Clemson. With Lawrence as his quarterback in 2018 and 2019, Higgins would total over 2,000 receiving yards during that two year span with 25 touchdowns.
Pro Football Focus is currently projecting that Higgins lands a four-year $112 million deal in free agency with $67.5 million guaranteed.
The Jaguars currently have $32-plus million in available salary cap space, which ranks 17th in the NFL. Some salary cap maneuvering would likely have to happen to make a deal of that magnitude fit on the salary cap books.
