Battling qualities please Calum as Chester pick up last gasp point

CALUM MCINTYRE praised the battling qualities of his side as Chester struck back late on to grab a point against Scarborough Athletic.

For the second time in just a matter of days, the Blues had to take on the team sitting second in National League North.

Pat Jones' double made sure of a 2-2 outcome with Fylde in midweek, while Dylan Mottley-Henry's 95th minute strike salvaged a point in a 1-1 draw at home to Scarborough on Saturday.

Boss McIntyre told Chester FC TV: "A really strong first half. Had loads of control, dominated areas, created chances.

"Didn't work the goalkeeper enough, lacked quality in front of goal. Lacked quality, at times, to create the actual chance.

"Concede a really poor goal again and then second half, played into a strong wind.

"I saw a team just giving everything to get something out of the game and I thought the lads kept going, and they got their reward."

Scarborough took the lead in the 10th minute as winger Rio Allan smashed in an effort from an acute angle.

That looked to be that, but there was something for the home faithful to finally celebrate in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Mottley-Henry rose highest to head in a dramatic leveller.

Leaders South Shields had to be satisfied with a point from their 0-0 draw at Southport and Fylde returned to second place on the back of their 5-0 thrashing of hosts Peterborough Sports.

Chorley got the better of Telford 3-1 and there was a 2-0 home triumph for Merthyr up against Worksop.

Other results: Alfreton 1 King's Lynn 1; Bedford 2 Curzon Ashton 2; Buxton 2 Oxford City 1; Darlington 1 Hereford 1; Kidderminster 1 Macclesfield 1; Radcliffe 4 Marine 1; Spennymoor 2 Leamington 0.
