A COSTCO member has hit the grocery jackpot on their latest shopping run, scoring a mismarked meat product for mere cents.
One shopper shared that they always keep an eye out for the mistakes thanks to the Costco subreddit and finally spotted one on their recent grocery trip.
"It finally happened! Mismarked brisket," beamed the customer in a Reddit post last week, along with an image of the 11.22 pound meat package priced at just $0.11.
They shared that after finding it right in the middle of the meat case, they brought it up to self-checkout where an employee took a photo of it and showed it to a manager.
The shopper was granted manager approval, taking the deeply discounted meat haul home with them and shocking the Costco receipt check employee on the way out.
"Happy day," wrote the lucky member.
Other Costco customers were in awe that they had managed to snag such a bargain, with one user calling it a "mini jackpot."
"An almost LITERAL steal.... Wow," wrote another shopper.
"You won the shopping lottery today. Congrats," praised a third member.
"Congrats. I hate you. (But seriously this is amazing I'm so happy for you)," said another.
The Costco shopper's find was mistakenly marked as one cent per pound, when it should have cost between $40 and $45, according to one member.
Several customers hypothesized that the brisket was intentionally marked down by a worker hoping to score the bargain for themselves.
"100% employee priced this in hopes to buy it haha - or at least what the delis and meat counter folks would have done at my job," wrote one user.
A Costco employee, however, was quick to step in and clarify that it would have been very easy to track the purchase back to the employee.
"Quick way to get fired seeing as we all have membership cards attached to our name/employee number," commented the employee. "We can't even eat the extra food."
Other shoppers pointed out that the brisket package featured a "Inventory Purposes Only!" label, indicating that the markdown was merely a mistake.
The brisket package should never have been placed in the sales case, as the tag indicated that the product was intended to be tracked in order to manage Costco's inventory.
Costco fans in the comments explained that the label was meant for trimmings that the meat department packages and later turns into ground meat.
"This allows them to more accurately calculate their margins for fresh meat," said one user.
"Guess there could be repercussions for the employee who made the obvious mistake," wrote another.
It's not the first time that Costco has mispriced an item.
One member rejoiced after a "mislabeled price" saved them a fortune - and it's all because the item was in the wrong section.
Another customer scored a huge deal after hunting for "mislabeled meats" - but they originally thought the search was "ridiculous and unlikely."
