Disney's live-action adaptation of "Lilo & Stitch" debuted at the top of the China box office over the May 23-25 weekend, pulling in RMB62.3 million ($8.7 million), according to Artisan Gateway.

The family title marked the strongest performance among a quiet slate, offering a rare Hollywood success in a year dominated by local productions.

After three weekends in the lead, "The Dumpling Queen" slipped to second with $3 million. The CMC Pictures title has now grossed $53.5 million. Directed by Andrew Lau and starring Ma Li, the rags-to-riches biopic continues to draw solid returns.

Financial thriller "A Gilded Game" retained third place with $2.5 million. The Universe Entertainment release has now earned $38.5 million, thanks to its star pairing of Andy Lau and Ni Ni and a topical plot focused on ambition and corruption in the corporate world.

Wanda Pictures' comedy "The Open Door" ranked fourth with $1 million, bringing its total to $18.2 million.

"Ne Zha 2" rounded out the top five with $900,000 in its 17th weekend of release. The Cococartoon-produced animated epic has now amassed $2.14 billion, maintaining its record as 2025's biggest success by a wide margin.

Total weekend box office revenue came in at $20.4 million, down from the previous frame. China's 2025 cumulative box office now stands at $3.76 billion, up 26.8% compared to the same period in 2024. With a number of major domestic titles and international releases on the June slate, the market is expected to pick up momentum heading into the summer.
