Nahed, CARE's senior health program officer, did everything she could to help those suffering around her. Despite the added risks, she chose to stay in a tent to remain close to her work. This was a deliberate choice, even though her mother lived in a safer, rented apartment nearby.
She helped set up CARE's primary healthcare center in Deir al-Balah in Central Gaza. Throughout the crisis, she has worked to support CARE teams and secure medical supplies and equipment. She was very involved in the polio vaccination campaign in which thousands of children received their immunization. The center also provided basic healthcare to desperate residents and people forced to leave their homes, despite the near impossibility of getting the needed supplies.
