The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is returning to the Lowcountry to provide free, IRS-certified tax preparation to qualified residents, helping them maximize refunds and achieve financial self-sufficiency.
A collaboration between the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Beaufort County Human Services Alliance, the Beaufort County Public Library System, and United Way of the Lowcountry (UWLC), VITA begins its services in early February. Whether you're a working family, college student, or retiree, VITA ensures you claim every deduction and credit you deserve, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).
"Knowing how to manage your money and having the resources you need are essential for building a secure future for yourself and your family," United Way of the Lowcountry President and CEO Dale Douthat said in a media release. "VITA helps our community learn how to navigate the tax system and take control of their finances, which is key to achieving financial independence and a better life for everyone."
Visit www.uwlowcountry.org/VITA to find a VITA site near you, schedule an appointment, and download a list of required documents. Don't miss this chance to file your taxes accurately, efficiently, and completely free. Plus, check your eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) at www.irs.gov/eitcassistant. If you qualify, you could reduce your taxes or increase your refund significantly.
