AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A 45-year-old murder victim has become the latest person killed in a three-year outbreak of violent crime across the CSRA.
The victim was identified as Yolanda Epps, of 527 Richmond Hill Road West.
The shooting was reported at 3:06 a.m. Saturday at her address. Arriving officers found Epps with a gunshot wound.
The victim was taken to Wellstar MCG hospital for treatment and later succumbed to her injuries.
She was declared dead at 6:44 a.m., and an autopsy is scheduled.
Investigators with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office homicide division responded to the scene.
After further investigation, investigators were able to identify and arrest, Keondra McBride, 26, who also lives at or near the crime scene, according to deputies.
She was taken to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center and charged with murder, deputies said.
The investigation is still ongoing with no further information being released at this time.
About 200 people have lost their lives in a three-year outbreak of violent crime that's affected communities large and small on both sides of the Savannah River.
As the region's largest city, Augusta has been hit especially hard.
