'It would be so out of order'... Alex Pereira potentially stealing Jon Jones fight off Tom Aspinall enrages UFC legend

While Alex Pereira vs Jon Jones would capture the imagination of the casual fans, an MMA icon, would be livid if Tom Aspinall doesn't get his shot at the throne.

On Saturday night, at UFC 313, inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, 'Poatan' will attempt to defend his light heavyweight championship against Magomed Ankalaev.

Should he retain his strap, then he'll likely fancy a move up to heavyweight. And it seems he's more than big enough for the weight class, as Daniel Cormier found out when he tried to wrestle Pereira earlier this week.

However, the idea of him jumping the queue ahead of the division's interim champion, doesn't sit too well with a former middleweight title holder.

Michael Bisping is not remotely on board with the idea of Alex Pereira receiving an opportunity to exchange leather with Jon Jones.

While he can understand the allure of the fight, he doesn't think it should take priority over the match-up that Tom Aspinall has earned.

In an episode of the Believe You Me Podcast, 'The Count' said: "Pereira, if he's successful this weekend, a superfight with Jon Jones does materialize, maybe he fights Tom Aspinall.

"If you're Pereira, you don't want to go up against the interim champ, and that's no disrespect to Tom; you want the undisputed."

His co-host, Paul Felder, then predicted: "If Pereira wins on Saturday, he's calling out Jon Jones."

Appalled by the idea, Bisping replied: "That would suck for Tom. Tom should be the next man in line. Tom is the next man in line. But the UFC has always done a really good job of giving the fans what they want.

"I'm not building a narrative for this fight to happen; I'm just saying historically, that's what we always see.

"If Pereira, who is really popular, who is on a tear, who has taken over the sport, gets another viral knockout, and if everyone online is going, 'I want to see this fight, undisputed light heavyweight that's cleared out the division, which is Jon's old title, against Jon Jones at heavyweight'.

"It would be so out of order to Tom Aspinall."

While Jones vs Pereira could become a reality, conversations for another match-up could also soon commence.

A showdown between the Brazilian and Aspinall would undeniably create excitement.

The match-up would pit two of the most fearsome strikers the sport of MMA has ever seen, against one another in a spectacle that could end at any second.

Now, a combat sports fan favorite, has explained why he thinks Pereira vs Aspinall could be next.
