CODEN, Ala. (WALA) - A park in south Mobile County is set to reopen this weekend after undergoing upgrades.
County commissioners say Bayfront Park on Dauphin Island Parkway in Coden will be back open this Sunday.
Upgrades to the park includes a new 900-foot-long pocket beach. A lot of the work done during the closure was on building this beach out. It's now the largest pocket beach on the Gulf Coast, according to Mobile County District 3 Commissioner Randall Dueitt.
He also said the renovated park can be used for swimming, fishing, and crabbing.
The park will reopen with a free community celebration at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
