Potential free agent OL target for Jaguars no longer available

According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are re-signing offensive guard Ben Bredeson to a three-year, $22 million deal.

We do not know if the Jaguars would have had interest in Bredeson, but it's a move that would have made sense for them.

For one, Bredeson spent the 2024 season playing in Liam Coen's offense. Having that experience on the roster as the offense implements a new scheme could be valuable, not to mention that it would be a relatively smooth transition for Bredeson.

In addition to that, offensive line is a huge need for the Jaguars. Right guard Brandon Scherff is a free agent as well, which means the team is in need of finding a new starter at that position. A starting center and tackle competition is on GM James Gladstone's radar as well, as he prioritizes adding to the trenches this offseason.

"Where it stands right now, we'll prioritize positions really across the front both offensively and defensively and those that put points on the board," said Gladstone at the NFL combine. "That's where my mind goes."

As head coach Liam Coen has mentioned, improved offensive line play will be a must this season for the Jaguars. While the outside attention will be on Trevor Lawrence and his play, putting him in a position to succeed starts with giving him time in the pocket and having a strong run game to lean on.

Last season, Bredeson allowed just three sacks and three quarterback hits in 722 pass-blocking snaps, according to PFF.
