North Texas youth basketball coach arrested for indecency with a child

NORTH TEXAS - A youth basketball coach in Southlake is facing allegations of inappropriate behavior with a child, police announced Friday.

Mitchell Joseph Allan, 28, from Aubrey, has been charged with two counts of indecency with a child/sexual contact, according to the Southlake Police Department.

The announcement of Allan's arrest came one day after Southlake police disclosed a North Texas water polo coach had been taken into custody on child sexual assault charges.

According to Southlake police, the cases aren't related and involve different private sports clubs/programs. In both cases, the alleged offenses were reported to the police department, police said.

Allan was taken into custody by the Elm Ridge Police Department and booked into Denton County Jail on Feb. 1, three days after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

"The warrants for Allan stemmed from reports of abuse that occurred while Allan was working as a coach for a private basketball program," the Southlake Police Department said in a news release.

Due to the sensitive nature and age of the victim, Southlake police said they will not be releasing additional information.

Police are urging parents whose children may have interacted with Allan to contact Detective Roberson at (817) 748-8235 if they suspect abuse.

Southlake police released a link to information detailing the signs and symptoms of abuse.

The investigation is continuing, Southlake police said.
