Campbell Falls To NC State In Seven Innings

RALEIGH - Campbell fell in their second midweek game of the week, 11-1, at the hands of NC State on a wet Wednesday afternoon at Doak Field at Dail Park.

The Camels now sit at 4-9 on the year, and the Wolfpack improved to 8-5 after the seven-inning affair.

Peyton Brown (0-1) started his first game of the year for Campbell, as did NC State starter Jacob Dudan (1-1). Brown went 5.0+ innings with three strikeouts, facing three batters in the fifth. Dudan faced the minimum in his three innings of work with six strikeouts in a scheduled bullpen day.

NC State broke the game open with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on three hits.

A walk, hit-by-pitch and another walk loaded the bases for Josh Hogue, who took a 0-1 pitch and hooked it around the foul pole in right field for a grand slam.

The next two batters recorded outs before Ryan Jaros reached on a single and Ty Head worked a four pitch walk. Matt Heavner had a green light on the 3-1 pitch and sent it over the left field wall to bring in the final runs in the inning.

Campbell scored in the fourth on a solo home run from Jonah Oster, his team-leading fourth of the season.

The Wolfpack opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Head and Luke Nixon each recorded RBI doubles, and Chris McHugh scored Heavner with an RBI groundout.

Dalton Hazlett was first out of the bullpen for Campbell in the fifth inning and the bases loaded. He recorded a strikeout and two flyouts. Zac Martin pitched the sixth inning, and one unearned run scored in the frame for the Wolfpack.

Jaxon Lucas and Camden Wimbish combined to come out of the bullpen for the Wolfpack, each throwing two innings, allowing Campbell's four hits and one run between them.

Dalen Thompson, Joey Morton and Charlie Meglio each had a hit on the day, along with Oster.

Neither team had a successful stolen base in the game. Campbell was 0-3 attempting to swipe a bag, and NCSU was 0-2.

Jaros, Heavner and Brayden Fraasman each had two hits to lead the Wolfpack, who had 11 as a team.
