SGV roundup: Damien punches ticket to the CIF-SS boys basketball playoffs with win over Los Osos

The Damien boys basketball team won't have to sweat out Saturday's CIF Southern Section boys basketball playoff announcements after beating Los Osos 66-43 in Wednesday's third-place game in the Baseline League tournament, which gives the Spartans one of the league's automatic qualifying spots.

Eli Garner paced the Spartans with a game-high 21 points and Jacob Allen added 15 points with Lucas Arrieta scoring 13 points.

The Spartans (21-10) were ranked No. 41 in this week's CIF Southern Section computer rankings, which will help decide the divisions that teams are placed in.

The Spartans are on the bubble between Division 1 and 2 depending on how many teams are selected for the Open Division.

South Pasadena 57, San Marino 55

The Tigers held on for a two-point victory to win the outright Rio Hondo League title after finishing 19-9 overall and 9-1 in league play.

Senior Jack Madison had another strong game, scoring 16 points to go with seven rebounds, two steals and a block. Jacob Arias finished with 15 points to go with four rebounds and two blocks.

West Covina 43 Charter Oak 40

The Bulldogs finish 17-11 and 7-3 in the Hacienda League to clinch a spot in the playoffs.

Senior's Steven Julio and Matthew Jimenez each scored 11 points.

The Tigers (18-8, 9-1) clinched a share of the Rio Hondo League title along with La Canada (21-6, 9-1) with their 40-point victory.

The Titans (13-15, 5-5) still finished third and will make the playoffs.

San Dimas 66, South Hills 17

The Saints moved from the Valle Vista to the Hacienda League and still were able to secure their fourth straight league championship.

The Saints improved to 18-8 and finished a perfect 8-0 in league play.

The Apaches raced to a 4-0 halftime lead and held on for the victory to clinch the Pacific League title, finishing 10-1-5 overall and 5-0-2 in league play.

Senior Alina Ong led the way with four goals and freshman Mayisa Ong added the other.

Arcadia was ranked No. 34 in Tuesday's CIF Southern Section computer rankings that will help decide divisions for the playoffs, putting them on the bubble between Division 1 and 2. The soccer pairings will be announced on Saturday at 10 a.m.
