Former NFL punter Chris Kluwe fired from HS coaching job after protest arrest

Standing up -- and laying down -- for what he believes in has cost former NFL punter Chris Kluwe his job as a high school football coach in Southern California.

Kluwe says he was fired from his job -- after being offered the opporunity to resign -- following his arrest last week at a city council meeting.

"MAGA is profoundly corrupt, unmistakably anti-democracy, and, most importantly, MAGA is explicitly a Nazi movement," he said on Feb. 18 during a debate about whether to install a plaque with a MAGA acronym at the local public library. "You may have replaced a swastika with a red hat, but that is what it is," Kluwe added to cheers.

"I was told the school was getting too much attention, and they had to let me go" as special teams coach for the freshman football team. Kluwe said he's had the coaching job for about five years.

Kluwe was special teams coach at Edison High School in Huntington Beach, Ca, for about five years.

After he spoke up protesting MAGA beliefs at the city council meeting and conducted his :time-honred American tradition to civil disobedience" he was arrested and carried out of the meeting.
