Lawrence "Larry" Joseph Duguay

WINSLOW - Lawrence "Larry" Joseph Duguay passed from this life to the next on Feb. 5, 2025, at home with family by his side, shortly after his 90th birthday. He was born in 1935 in Winslow to John and Anne (Joseph) Duguay, the 11th of 13 children.

He attended Winslow School, where he excelled in football and basketball and had many stories to tell. He graduated in 1955. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the US Army and served in Korea from 1955 to 1957. In 1965 he married Faylene McCann and together they had two children, Gregory and Karen. He became the owner of Larry's Variety on Clinton Avenue where he spent 14 happy years. He was often approached by people who had fond memories of visiting the store as children.

When it became time to retire from the long hours of the store business, he began working for the Morning Sentinel and later the Kennebec Journal as a Single Copy Rep. until his retirement at age 62. He soon realized retirement was not for him and took a part-time job with Darling's of Augusta where he worked for 20 years. At age 82 he retired for good. He and Fay spent winter months at their condo in St. Petersburgh, Fla. for 13 years and made many lifelong friends.

Larry was a lifetime member of the VFW and Elks Club, where he enjoyed playing in pool tournaments with other members. He loved God and family above all else and was happiest when he could help his children with their various projects. Larry had a way of making everyone feel welcomed and made friends everywhere he went.

He is survived by his wife Fay of 60 years; his loving daughter Karen; brother John (Nancy), Joseph, sister Lorraine Reny (Don) and sister-in-law Antoinette Duguay.

He was predeceased by his son Greg; brothers Donald (Lillian), Omer, Edward, Albert, Omer "Babe" (Norma) and sisters Evelyn (Leo Morneau), Jeanne (Harold Carey), Olivine "Van" (Lee Peters) and Theresa Plante (Roland), sister-in-law Katherine (Joe); and many nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to all the Cancer Center and Hospice personnel who were so caring and kind.

Friends and family are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist church in Winslow on Feb. 15, 2025 at 11 a.m. with burial at St. Francis Cemetery on Grove St. in Waterville, in the spring. A reception will follow at the banquet room at the Waterville Elks Club.

Arrangements are under the direction of Veilleux Redington Lawry Funeral Home.
