LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Louisa County residents are currently under a boil water advisory as of Sunday June 1.
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH), Blue Ridge Health District and Louisa County Water Authority's water treatment plant, are advising Louisa County residents of the County Water Authority New Bridge and Lake Anna System in Louisa County, to use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking until further notice.
According to the county, this notice comes due to an electrical service in the county's pump house being interrupted causing water loss in the storage tanks which led to the loss of system pressure at around 2:40 p.m.
Boiled or bottled water should be used only for drinking, beverage and food preparation and ice making throughout Louisa County Water Authority Northeast Creek System until further notice
Per the press release, the county says system pressure will be restored once the electricians have restored electricity. In the meantime here are a few tips and safety precautions from the county to follow during this boil water advisory.
Do not drink tap water without boiling it first:
Boiling kills the bacteria and other organisms that may potentially exists within the water and according to the press release, is the preferred method to ensure the tap water is safe to drink.
The county will communicate with residents when there is no longer a need to boil water and when pressure has been restored to the system.
Bacteriological sampling is required to verify the water quality and to lift the boil water advisory. Louisa County Water Advisory says they expect o have results within 48 hours.
