Horrifyingly, the killer Billy Dunlop begins to brag about how he got away with the perfect murder, knowing he is protected by the double jeopardy law.
With the Crown having seemingly exhausted its powers, it's down to Ann to find justice for Julie, launching a campaign to change the 800-year-old law.
Ann was finally given the answers she was looking for as Billy was finally found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm following an attack on a former partner and a man.
Billy stabbed his ex-partner nine times, resulting in injuries including a punctured lung, and assaulted the man with a baseball bat so forcefully that the bat broke.
Actress Sheridan Smith has taken on the leading role of Ann and her performance has impressed viewers at home, who have praised her stint as one of her very best from her years working in TV.
