L/D-C boys pick up two 5-1 wins

The Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato boys hockey team encountered a case of deja vu last week, as the Dragons picked up two 5-1 road wins in consecutive days.

The Dragons traveled to Marshall on Feb. 4 to face the Tigers and took an early lead when junior forward Luke Benson netted an even-strength goal seven-and-a-half minutes into the game on an assist from junior forward Casey Peterson.

L/D-C took a 2-0 lead - and netted what would ultimately be the game-winner - with just eight seconds left in the first period on an unassisted, power-play goal from senior forward David Raisanen.

The Dragons dominated the opening 17 minutes, out-shooting the Tigers 13-5 in the opening period.

Raisanen found the back of the net again 12:34 into the second period on an assist from Peterson to give the Dragons a 3-0 lead.

Marshall answered back a minute-and-a-half later, when Mason Plante scored to decrease the deficit to 3-1.

A two-goal deficit was all the closer the Tigers could get, however, as Paul Raisanen and David Raisanen each scored in the third period to give the Dragons a convincing 5-1 road win.

L/D-C senior Dylan Lemke was solid in net, turning away 23 of the 24 shots he faced, as the Dragons out-shot the Tigers 38-24.

WCC win over Hutch

The Dragons traveled to Hutchinson the next night and skated to another 5-1 win, picking up a Wright County Conference win against another batch of Tigers Friday night in Hutch.

L/D-C forward Brandt Pedersen opened the scoring 12 minutes into the first period, when the freshman scored on assists from senior defenseman Ben Haugo and junior forward Luke Benson.

The Dragons carried a 1-0 lead to the first intermission and quickly tacked on two more goals within the first four minutes of the second period, as David Raisanen and Ben Haugo scored within 40 seconds of each other to put L/D-C up 3-0.

The two teams skated into the third period with the score remaining 3-0, when David Raisanen scored again - this time a short-handed goal assisted by Casey Peterson - to put the Dragons up 4-0.

Hutch's Cole Hansen replied with the Tigers' only goal five minutes later, but L/D-C's Bailey Emery restored the four-goal lead with under four minutes remaining on assists from Haugo and Brandt Pedersen.

Dylan Lemke once again started in net for the Dragons and excelled, stopping 30 of the 31 shots he faced.
